Male gynecomastia correction is the second most common procedure in men and it´s the most common concern among young men, because it affects them in their social life and relationships, especially in summer, preventing them from going to the beach. Some men say that they have never been on the beach or removed their T-shirt in the gym changing room.
Male gynecomastia is an increase in male breast tissue, and can affect one or both breasts. It is sometimes accompanied by a growth of fat in the breast region. When there is only fat accumulation in this region, the procedure is called pseudogynecomastia. In any case, as well as the female gynecomastia, this problem can be easily treated at the Instituto Pérez de la Romana with just one procedure.
The procedure is performed under local anesthetic, and the patient can return home after the procedure.
During the procedure, we use a liposuction technique in the mammary region and in most cases when the gland is not very big and firm, with only liposuction procedure an excellent result is achieved.
In cases, when the glandular tissue is bigger, in addition to liposuction, the gland below the areola will be removed by means of a small semicircular incision on the lower edge of the areola.
In older patients whose skin is more loose, it is also necessary to remove a drooping part of the skin. In this case, it would be done with a full circular incision around the areola. Although, we prefer to view if it is necessary after the first operation is done, because in many cases the skin retracts itself adopting to a new breast form and the final results are excellent.
After the procedure, the patient must wear a T-shirt or elastic waistcoat to help the skin retract properly. The results are always optimal and increase the self-esteem of the patient.
