What is vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves correcting and repairing defects in both the posterior compartment of the vagina and the perineal area, a small area of muscle tissue that goes from the vagina to the anus can also be combined with repair of defects of the anterior compartment, allowing an elevation of the vagina generally produced as a result of excess weight and especially, due to childbirth. These can cause the perineum to dilate and lose its original shape and proper functionality causing problems of incontinence, infections, pain and difficulty in having sex.

In what cases is vaginoplasty indicated?

It is indicated in all cases of deterioration of the vagina and perineal tissues.

Genital Laser design is the laser treatment of these areas and it helps to correct the perineum, either scars or an exaggerated distension of the pelvic floor. In this procedure we managed to narrow the vaginal canal, to strengthen the pelvic floor returning its optimal shape and elasticity, thus improving sexual quality and avoiding prolapses.

We also correct fibrosis caused by episiotomies or congenital defects in this area.

Duration, anesthesia and hospitalization of vaginoplasty.

It’s a short procedure, about an hour, usually done under local anesthesia with sedation to keep the patient calm throughout the process.

It is performed on an outpatient basis or, depending on the case, the patient may stay in the hospital for one day.

Who are the candidates for this treatment?

Any woman who suffers from laxity of the perineum or prolapse of the anterior or posterior part of the vagina can be a good candidate for this procedure; which can lead to sensitivity problems, incontinence, infections and discomfort in sexual intercourse.

What is the postoperative period after a vaginoplasty?

The recovery is usually quick and not bothersome, but while the recovery lasts the patient should not lift excessive weight or make physical efforts. After about a month, sexual life can be resumed.
