Career

Federico Perez de la Romana, born in Alicante, holder of a degree in plastic, cosmetic and restorative surgery by the University Complutense of Madrid extends his studies as specialist in cosmetic and restorative surgery at the American universities of San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco during the years 1978 / 1980.

At 1975 begins to exercise as plastic surgeon at the Hospital La Paz , Madrid. His specialization and carrying out of a doctoral thesis on the breast reconstruction after mastectomy post cancer, take him to become pioneer in breast restorative surgery and all techniques of breast cosmetic surgery.

Dr. Perez of the Romana, founded in 1978 the plastic and cosmetic surgery Clinica Almagro of Madrid, national centre of reference in this specialty. In 1988 designs and creates the Institute Pérez de la Romana , of plastic and cosmetic surgery at the city of Alicante. In 2005, with the aim of offering the best services, he moves to a modern new plant building equipped with the most advanced technology and specialists outstanding in the field of cosmetic surgery. Today, the doctor directs and exercises its activity in both centres.

Among the achievements of Dr. Pérez de la Romana the following must be highlighted:

• Reconstructive Mircosurgery: Pérez de la Romana extends his studies as a cosmetic and restorative surgery specialist at the American universities of San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco in the reconstructive microsurgery specialty, which subsequently allows him to carry out 15 implants in our country.
• Breast reconstruction: in 1980 he sets in motion the first unit for breast reconstruction in Spain, located at the Hospital La Paz in Madrid. After the completion of his doctoral thesis on this specialty Dr. Pérez de la Romana is forerunner in breast restorative surgery and breast cosmetic surgery techniques. He also collaborates with the American professors John Tebbetts and Patrick Maxwell, specialists in breast surgery and breast prostheses designers.
• Facial rejuvenation: Dr. Pérez de la Romana was formed with the doctors Aston and Baker in New York and Baker, Gordon and Stutzin in Miami, annually attending seminaries organized by these on facial rejuvenation. Furthermore is highlighted his collaboration with the Professor Dr. Glenn Jelks from New York, number one in the world on eyelid rejuvenation.
• Treatment of obesity: In 1998 begins to become interested about the morbid obesity problem. He learns at the hand of Dr. Lockwood and his disciple Al Ali the most avant-garde techniques on body remodelling. In this manner, in 2005, is born a novel line health care of the clinic, addressed to the individualized treatment of obesity. In this therapy, the Centre also is pioneer in Spain, because combines bariatric surgery and treatments against obesity and later bodily remodelling.
  Anually the Instituto Perez de la Romana organizes a training course destined for young plastic surgeons on this new speciality.

Federico Pérez de la Romana is author of a book on plastic surgery: "Colgajos musculares y músculocutáneos" (Muscle and muscle-cutaneous flaps), published in 1982 and numerous scientific articles published by national and international magazines. His recent publications include:

• Utilización de células grasas y células madre para la reconstrucción mamaria post mastectomía" (Use of fat cells and stem cells for the Breast reconstruction post mastectomy). Currently under realization in collaboration with the Foundation Quorum of the Universidad Miguel Hernández of Elche (Alicante).
• Utilización de células grasas y células madre para rellenos faciales en traumatismos faciales y pacientes con enfermedades de inmunodeficiencia" (Use of fat cells and stem cells for facial fillings in facial traumas and patients with immunodeficiency diseases) . Currently in realization in collaboration with the Foundation Quorum of the Universidad Miguel Hernández of Elche (Alicante).
